Black Army 1850 Drummer John Sandate giving Evan a scarf. Dan Perlea/mlsroadtrip.com

I received a call yesterday from John Sandate, one of the drummers I mentioned and the co-host of “What the Flock” podcast. John called me because he wanted to give me a Black Army scarf. We met up shortly before the L.A. Galaxy/Portland Timbers game yesterday in a 7/11 parking lot next to the stadium. John opened his trunk and had a scarf for not only me, but for our photographer Dan as well. While we were leaving to go to the game, a panhandler on a bike came up to John, who had just gotten into his white 2008 Honda Accord EX-L. John got out and handed the man some money. Black Army 1850: class acts all around.

Unfortunately, one of our members had to back out of the trip; but the project will still be commencing exactly one month from today, but first, we need your help (and no, we’re not asking for money).

All of us that are going on the trip are pretty much life-long inhabitants of the West Coast, mainly California. We have all done a bit of traveling and as such we are pretty familiar with the three West Coast cities that we will be traveling to: Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland. However, there are nine other cities that we will be visiting. That is where you guys come in.

Exactly three months from today, we will begin our journey into the world of American and Canadian professional soccer. What can and should you expect from us? If there are any general questions about the trip, please see our about page for our mission statement and personal biographies. But more specifically, what should you expect from us on a day-to-day basis? Throughout the 51 days (maybe more!) of our trip, we will be uploading pictures, video and writing within 24 hours of the event we are covering. We want to capture the best moments of the American and Canadian fan. We would love to capture something like this:
